Dear Art Teachers...

What is your favorite, most unique, can't live without supply??? I always search all the blogs looking for something new and different - so while it's still the beginning of the year and most of you just bought supplies - what are you always excited to use!?!?
I LOVE the heavy tin foil - look through my Blog for the projects done with it! It's a must on my list.

  3. I love glittery scratchboards and metallic oil pastels. There is also a Mayco underglaze that I use called Chili Pepper that is the BEST red out there!!! I also like these round pizza inserts that are from SAX...I love the heavy circular cardboard for making junk collages at the end of the year!!!

  6. I really love using metallic oil pastels, and glitter scratchboards! Both are kind-of pricey, but they're gorgeous! I also just ordered some "tap glue" caps for my glues. We go through waaaaay too much and the lids are constantly clogged, then break off. here is the link: http://www.discountschoolsupply.com/Product/ProductDetail.aspx?product=3359

There is also an Amaco underglaze that i LOOOOOOOOVE called Bright Red that is the best red I can find :) Will be excited to see what others post!

  7. I love crayola model magic clay if I can fit it into my budget. It is no mess sculpture tool for the younger kids, can be used for bas relief, and also works great to show how to mix colors. My kids love it and so do I!

  8. Sand! Super cheap, makes texture easy to understand, and lots of fun!

Here are two sand projects from last spring. I have several more to post.

  9. Love my low temp hot glue gun, black Sharpies, good quality sticky masking tape, and paint. Lots of paint. Those are my #1 faves, but not unique materials.

Then there's pop sticks, giant Q-tips, and little sponges. And feathers, and beads, and yarn. And of course the recyclables: chopped up cardboard boxes, and cereal boxes, and toilet paper rolls, and telephone wire, and old CD's, and hunks of sheet rock (drywall). Oh dear, my list has gotten too large.

Does anyone know what happened to those most wonderful Foohy Gel Markers, with brilliant colors, and they would write on anything? Haven't found anything else even close.

  10. Black glue! It can be purchased, but I just add black powder tempera or India ink to any white glue that dries clear. It makes a perfect drawing tool for paintings, prints or collages. Have used it as a staple for years!

  13. Hi!
I can't live without gallon-size Ziploc bags - for damp clay, or for collage projects that are not finished in a single session. Each kid in grades 5-6 gets their own bag, labeled with name, teacher and table number.

Glad I came across your blog! I LOOOVE learning from other art teachers.

I just started a K-6 art blog. Please visit at www.k6art.com

    Thanks!

    Rina
